ticwatch 2 has Wifi - Why?

Post by BHP » Tue Oct 04, 2016 5:22 pm

Please help me understand what the WiFi connection on the ticwatch 2 actually does for the user? Is it merely a way to keep the watch paired over a farther distance than Bluetooth? Will there eventually be apps that allow the watch to host certain functions without a paired phone? Why does the user need WiFi on the watch?

If the app development gets anywhere which *fingers crossed* it will (especially when more people get their watches), people are probably going to start developing apps for the watch and I'm guessing some of them could stand alone on wifi without a phone. Also I think the voice search on google can work without a phone

Wifi can be used to download larger files, such as ROM OTA update. The download speed is way faster than through Bluetooth.

Yes, it is for updates, developing apps, larger file transfers, etc.

Cheers!

Yep. It's great for updates. Also good for ADB over WiFi, so you don't need a developer dock to make apps, or sideload AW/Android apps.

Android Wear also supports connecting to your phone over WiFi, but i'm pretty sure Ticwear doesn't have that feature.

Yep, noticed this earlier in the settings.
