Ticwatch E will not pair

I am trying to pair my new Ticwatch E with my Moto E5 Plus. It connects just fine, and then says it's checking for updates, and never finishes. Meanwhile, my phone says it's getting watch details, the progress bar gets to about 10%, and never goes any further.

I'm logged into the mobvoi app. When I try to add a watch in that app, it just seems me over to Wear OS.


Things I've tried:

1. Resetting phone and watch
2. Turning Bluetooth off and on
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Wear OS app
4. Clearing the Cache for Wear OS and Google play services, and clearing the wearable storage under Google play services
5. Unpairing the watch from Bluetooth, and forgetting it in Bluetooth settings
6. Forgetting the watch in Wear OS app
7. Numerous factory resets of the watch

Google play services version: 11.3.02
Android OS: 7.1.1
Android security patch level: 5 October 2017

Phone: Moto E5 Plus
Android OS: 8.0.0
Android security patch level: May 1, 2020
Google play services version: 20.24.14
Wear OS version: 2.38.0.318263762.gms
Mobvoi app version: 3.15.0-838.423


Do I need to do a warranty return?
