There’s actually NOTHING in ticwatch-s straps

Post by Eois » Sun Jan 28, 2018 10:59 pm

So someone found that there is actually NO electronic or metal parts in the strap of Ticwatch-S, not as claimed for embedded parts to increase
GPS functionality. Anything wants to say about it Mobvoi?

To me it looks like there's some metal in the band. so presumably that connects to something on the watch and subsequently improves GPS accuracy. If you were very brave and wanted to confirm/disprove this hypothesis then you could cut into the band and see if there's metal or anything other than silicone in the strap

Somehow that does not surprise me. Does that mean that this band is truly replaceable ?

The thing on the bottom side seems like a contact point. Does it contact anything in the strap?

The metal strip shown inside the watch case is the actual GPS antenna. The bands may actually have a Passive radiator built into them

I also suggested possibility of a passive radiator (though not with that term) earlier on kickstarter comments, where this issue also came up. So I tested: If there is a passive radiator inside the band, it seems to be useless. Covering the band in foil did practically nothing to signal strength, but covering (only) the seen GPS antenna (even with a finger) causes a significant effect, as expected. Not a scientific level test, but still, clear enough...

The antenna for the GPS is located in the strap. That's why there is a metal contact point on the inside of the band and the watch.

Actually you will find there is no metal contact points on the strap at all. There is no metal in the strap according to my metal detector...
The metal that is showing there is actually the antenna.
