Sync issue between Tic Health watch app and Mobvoi phone app

I am having sync issues between the Tic Health watch app and Mobvoi phone app.
My phone runs Android 9, and since I bought Ticwatch Pro I have never been able to see health data in the phone app.
I can see the data in the Tic Health watch app, but it doesn't go through to the Mobvoi phone app.
I see heart rate data (from Tic Pulse) and workout data (from Tic Exercise) in the Mobvoi phone app. But steps, calories, distance, all of these are empty in the Mobvoi phone app.
It seems to be related to phones running Android 9, but I'm not sure. Support is terrible. I opened a ticket and they keep saying an OTA update is coming up and will solve the issue.
Google Play Store is full of bad reviews and people complaining about the same sync issue, and Mobvoi doesn't seem to care.
Anyone found a way around this?
I know moving to Google Fit is an option, but the Tic Health app provides more information, so I would prefer to use it as my primary option.
