I cannot believe that I have to have my phone on and connected to the mobile network to uses messages in the watch. This seems to be false advertising. Is this a Verizon, Google, or Mobvoi limitation? Are there plans to fix this? I bought the watch so I can stay connected to family and leave my phone at home. It's literally the reason I purchased it.

On top of the issue above I seem to ONLY be able to text from my shared Verizon number when my phone is connected via Bluetooth. If I shut off Bluetooth on my phone the messages app immediately says I'm offline.

I am using Google Messages and it's set to default.

LOL glad I'm not crazy - I can see your point too... but yeah, it's confusing wording for sure.

Sabertooth, that info confuses me a bit. If you have to meet those 3 conditions you cited, why would the watch even need LTe? I could text from my old Sony smartwatch with my phone on and by my side. Thanks.

Greetings all!

Just so you know, I have directed your comments directly to the International Sales and Marketing Manager and the Website Sales Manager in addition to your normal support folks so, while they may not have any comments, you can be sure they are hearing your voices.

My understanding is that it is a complicated process that uses Google Cloud Sync because there is no support for it with Verizon.

FYI - I think I figured out the "unable to text from watch while away from phone and connected to Verizon" conundrum.

Solution:
I installed/enabled Verizon Message+ on my phone. It asked to be the default SMS app on my phone and I said 'yes'. I gave it a few minutes and saw that my texts history from Google Messages appeared in the Verizon Message+ app. I then went to Google Messages on my phone and made it the default SMS/text app on my phone. On my watch, I opened the messages app and made sure that the icon at top had "phone" selected and I was able to send/receive text messages on my watch while away from my phone or when my phone was turned off. Problem solved.

Some notes:
1]The Verizon Message+ app looks like has to be up and running on your phone and afterwards, set whatever is your preferred text/sms app as your default. I guess the Verizon Message+ apps is a go between and does the cloud sync so you can send/receive texts while disconnected from phone. It syncs with your default sms/text app on your phone.
2]I had to select 'yes' to install/enable the Verizon Message+ app as default on my phone the very first time. If I selected 'No', it would not start the Verizon Message+ app. After Verizon Message+ was installed/enabled and was the default app, I just went to Google Messages and made Google Messages my default and all's well.
3]On my watch, the icon at the top of the Messages app you can choose between phone and watch. If you select watch, it uses the phone number associated with your watch and if you send texts this way, people may not recognize it as from you since it's a different phone number than the one on your phone. So therefore, make sure the icon is set to 'phone' to use your phone's number. Either way, it's good to know there is a "secret" phone number you can use to send text messages.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Hi Sabertooth,

Thanks for the details here, I have followed the steps you outlined and am still having this trouble. For clarity I:

- Am using an Android phone with up to date software (Galaxy s9)
- Have set the Google messaging app to default on the phone
- Am connected to a cellular network with the phone and the watch
- All apps are up to date
- Neither watch or phone are in developer mode
- I have restarted both.
- I'm in the UK using Vodafone's OneNumber

If you would be able to offer any other suggestions, that would be most appreciated.

Thanks

There are three conditions for the texting to work via LTE/cellular. First, it's only possible right now on an android phone. Second, you need to use the Google messaging app on the phone. And, third, the phone still needs to be on and have a cellular connection as well.

If you meet all these conditions but it's still not working. First, check that you have the latest software installed on the watch AND phone (i.e., different Wear OS versions can cause issues especially). Open the Play Store on the watch and swipe down from the top, tap the My Apps (overlapping boxes) on the left then tap Update all if there are updates available. On the phone, open the Play Store and tap the menu bars in the upper left then tap My apps and games. tap Update all if there are updates available. If that didn't do it, report your phone make and model and confirm you meet the above conditions and followed the steps and we'll try to figure out where it's going wrong. If you enabled Developer options and made any changes, you should factory reset prior to following these steps.

Edit: I also suggest to restart both the phone and the watch prior to troubleshooting as a general rule.

Same issue here. I can only call and text on mobile with the new number. I want people to reach me when they dial my old number. Not happy.

I have not been pleased with cellular calls or text messages on my watch. I am a Verizon customer using NumberShare so that I don't have to use a separate number for my watch. When my phone dies, I am unable to send/receive text messages. Phone calls sometimes work.

Hang on hang on.

What is this I am hearing? This is not clear on the website when ordering the watch, which I have done and am awaiting delivery.

So I have an iPhone and installed the wearOS and Mobvoi app. I am already on Vodafone in the UK and plan activate the OneNumber.

Are you saying here that if I leave my phone at home I won't be able to use the watch with the eSIM (same number as my phone) to make phone calls, send texts and use data as a standalone device?

Will I receive notifications from whatsapp, viber, facebook etc wen I don't have the phone with me?

I understood that this was the whole point of haveing the eSIM , to be able to get cellular and data connection when the phone is not with me.

Please clarify, this is really confusing? I have the latest iOS installed and I presume the Watch (when it arrives) will be updated and be on the latest software.
