Make it possible to connect via WIFI instead of bluetooth

Post by reddwarf » Sat Nov 12, 2016 9:24 am

Hello,
in most home environments there is WIFI available.
It would be nice if the watcg could connect to the phone via WIFI.
Bluetooth reaches only a few meters. My WIFI covers my hole flat.
I don't want to carry my phone around the house to keep the watch connected.
Think about it! The watch could be connected as long there is internet available.

The watch does connect to the phone through wifi. You need to have the cloud synch turned on. It's a little flaky, but every now and then I get a little cloud symbol which indicates that it is talking to my phone via wifi.

One thing is that you need to remember to turn wifi on (which is usually turned off to save power).

 It would be very cool if when the watch loses contact with bluetooth, it automatically turns the wifi on and then tries to connect that way..

Once bluetooth connectivity is restored, it turns wifi off...

The only thing missing is some logic that if there is no network available, the system doesn't leave the wifi on all the time; draining the battery. Maybe a period poll is enough.

But the ticwear app only connects through bluetooth.
It would be nice to shut down bluetooth on the watch and use wifi instead.
Having both enabled drains the battery too fast.
