Tic Watch S - Issues with iPhone 6 plus - USA

Post by vlnvedala » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:30 am

Hi,
I had received the watch today and in the exploring mode. I liked the interface and functionality so far. I had already used during my running and its doing its job with charm.

I did run into few issues and I am hoping to get some answers/clarifications.

1. Phone app is disabled - One of the backer from Singapore with a S model showed that the phone app is active. This enables to talk through the watch (answering calls etc). I live in the US and I see that the same app is disabled. I do see the app under settings/app/system apps but not in app tree. Is this app location specific? If not how do I activate this.

2. Android wear app for iphone is pretty basic and wanted to know if there are any apps better than this.

3. Battery drains pretty quickly. I see that it had drained 50% in about 6 hours. I understand that this is new and it may take sometime to adapt which I am hoping it will stay for atleast 24 hours.

4. Reply to texts and email is not possible even using google assistant. Is this observation correct?

Looking forward to some answers from mods. Much appreciated.

To answer pretty much all of these at once, Android Wear on iOS is EXTREMELY limited. You lack access to very many things (phone calling IIRC might be one of them, AW app is not fully featured, no replay to text/email), resulting from how locked down the Apple ecosystem is.

Regarding the AW app itself, that's about as good as it'll get. Because Apple wants you to stay within their ecosystem, they make it very difficult for other apps to play well with their devices (Pebble's smartwatches were able to get SMS reply...only if you had AT&T as they went straight to the carrier, not through the phone).

Regarding battery drain, I've noticed that too. I'm letting mine charge right now and seeing how it goes overnight if I need to keep it plugged in overnight or if I can use it for sleep tracking as well (which would be great if it had the battery life overnight!).

Regarding GA text/email response, it makes sense for text (given the locked-down ecosystem) but it may not like doing email responses either. Not sure, I don't own an iPhone but I know how limited AW is with iOS devices.

Regarding the phone app, no clue. It might be iOS itself and the limitations of the AW app.

Thanks mate for the detailed reply. Looks like I have e to deal with it.

Regarding battery drain, it’s been two days now. Had the battery drainer to dead three times, kept everything off - WiFi, location, google assistant, black watch face, display off with gestures on. Nothing works. Full charge stays for 12 hours. Charging twice a day. Not sure what else to do.

How do we know what’s causing the drain ? Also how to close apps so that they don’t run in the background ?

Thanks again

Kickstarter supporters received two (not one) chargers with their new Ticwatch S (or E). I assume one of the chargers can be taken to your workplace to charge the watch's battery when the battery level drops to 50% at 2:00 pm.

When you exit an app, make sure you swipe from the left to the right of the watch. That closes the app entirely, while using the button just suspends the app so it still runs.
